Winsor & Newton Collection Drawing Ink Set, Set of 4, Black, White, Metallic Tones

Our Experience

After scrutinizing a plethora of reviews and comparing various ink sets, I settled on the Winsor & Newton Collection Drawing Ink Set. Over three weeks, I tested each of the four hues – Black, White, Gold, and Bronze – across different paper types, including smooth Bristol board, textured mixed media paper, and delicate watercolor paper.

I was particularly impressed with the pigment concentration in the Metallic Tones. The Gold ink produced a rich, luminous effect on both smooth and textured surfaces, even when diluted for wash techniques. It maintained its vibrancy without losing opacity, even at higher dilution ratios.

However, while the inks flow smoothly from the bottles, I found the included plastic pipette somewhat unwieldy for precise application, especially when attempting fine lines or detailed work. A glass dropper with a slightly narrower opening would have been more practical for such applications.

Overall, this set offers excellent quality pigments that performed consistently across various papers and techniques. Despite the minor annoyance with the pipette, the Winsor & Newton Collection Drawing Ink Set has become my go-to choice for ink illustrations and lettering.
