The price made me hesitant at first - $29 for a non-alcoholic sparkling wine seemed steep. But I'd heard good things about Thomson & Scott's Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay, and curiosity got the better of me.

I popped open the bottle on New Year's Eve, and to my surprise, it poured like the real thing, with a lively bubble that lasted throughout the night. The taste was crisp and refreshing, with notes of green apple and lemon - not too sweet, not too dry. It was almost convincing enough to fool my wine-snob friends.

My only critique? The aftertaste lingers just slightly longer than I'd like, but it's a minor quibble for an otherwise impressive alcohol-free alternative. All in all, Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay is worth a try if you're looking to enjoy a fancy drink without the hangover.
