I was skeptical at first; I mean, a $20 spark plug tester seemed too good to be true. But after trying it out for almost a month on my '98 Honda Civic, I've been pleasantly surprised. It's robust and well-built, which is more than I can say for some other tools in this price range.
I particularly liked the adjustable RPM feature; it really helped me simulate different engine speeds to pinpoint any issues with my spark plugs. However, the instructions could be a bit clearer. They're functional but lack some detail that would've made setup easier. Still, for the price and the results I got, this tester is a solid purchase.
Hey, It worked fine. Bought it because a while back I replaced plugs in my dodge mini van and after doing the job. I had a misfire on one cylinder. had to take the car apart to find I had a dead brand new plug. replaced the brand new plug with another and problem solved.Long story short I had to do plugs on another vehicle that has a 3.5 hour tear down time just to get to the plugs so I bought this to test them prior to fitting them. It worked great. Installed plugs No issues vehicke runs great.
Worked as advertised from low through high rates.
It does work; and for those who complain of the dim spark; that is not a defect or weakness of the tester--it's just what a minimal voltage (see more below) spark plug spark looks like...I ran some tests on the unit and measured it's output at 5 to 7.5 kV; not a lightning bolt, but enough to fire a plug in ambient air--this is not bad! If it fires at 7.5 kV then it will have no problem firing at the 25 to 50+ kV produced by contemporary electronic ignition systems. I.e. It is a good baseline ass
Easy to set up and use. It appears to be a fairly weakvoltage, but enough to verify that the plug is working. At first I did not know if it was a low charge voltage or a poorly functioning plug. Turns out that the plug was fine, but this tester just doesn't have a strong voltage charge which results in a weak gap spark.
Works good, no more guessing if the plugs are good
